This is one of those on-off, yes-no, chocolate or vanilla months, where events will move slowly and in high contrast. One minute a project may be going off the rails, and at other times, you will feel that everything, finally, is right with the world. This trend will be felt by every zodiac sign, and it is enough to make us all manic. You will have to be content with making incremental steps, not large strides toward goals, but this is only a temporary situation. In the meantime, going slowly might be a blessing, for you are likely to make more progress that way than by rushing through deals that later you will wish you had done differently. You will be acting in a more deliberate fashion, thinking through each project with care, and in April, that spells success.

There are many forces creating this situation. First, as you begin the month, Venus will still be retrograde, a holdover from March 5 when Venus first started to go in reverse. Venus will stay retrograde until April 15, but will take some time to reach former strength – gradually getting stronger by May 18. In the meantime, at least prior to April 15, don’t schedule any massive changes to your appearance – no rhinoplasty (nose) or facial plastic surgery, no experimental dermatological treatments, no dramatic shifts in hairstyle or color, and it probably would be best not to change the frames on your eyeglasses now unless you need a new prescription. (In that case, get the glasses, of course.) You CAN get normal grooming done – have trims, color touch ups, and by all means, use your normal moisturizers and serums, and tried-and-true gadgets that you like to use on your face at home. Women, put off buying new makeup for the new season until May. Men, get those cool designer sunglasses you want to buy in May.

Venus rules love, beauty, and all the fun, luxurious things of life – precious jewels, perfume, flowers, wine and champagne, imported chocolates, lavish parties – you get the idea. When Venus gets her beauty sleep, she withholds her greatest powers, so these areas are ones to avoid for now. It certainly is not the time to give an expensive party or charity benefit (donations are likely to be low) or to launch a product or service of interest to women. Venus holds sway over profits, especially in regard to endeavors that are aimed toward the female market. Venus also rules love, so it’s not considered a good time to meet someone new if you are single, for in the unfolding of the relationship, you are likely to later feel that the relationship lacks emotional support and affection. Venus is now moving through your home sector, so if you are focused on a design project, it might be best to hold off buying new furniture or a mattress until May. The more expensive your purchase in any of these areas, the more I would urge you to wait to act on or any time after May 18.

The planets that spin close to earth are the ones that fall more directly when retrograde. Astrologers call these close-by planets “personal planets” and they include Mercury, Venus, and Mars. Mars is fine and won’t retrograde until next year. Venus goes retrograde every two years, and you know she is in one of her backslides now.

Here is where I need to drop the other shoe: Mercury is about to retrograde too, from April 9 to May 3. It’s as if the universe is saying, stop, slow down, listen, and think. This month, there is no need to move fast, but a great need to think deeply about relationships and endeavors, and to review assumptions, which might be off.

Mercury is the natural ruler of your career sector, your tenth house of honors, awards, and achievement. With Mercury moving backward in your workaday sector during half of the retrograde, you need to be sure there are no errors in your work. Be prepared for changes in direction from the client too.

You may be calling executives you know and worked with in the past but have not seen in months or years. This is a good idea for it is the perfect way to use Mercury retrograde. If you work in sales, see long-term clients who always believed in you, supported you, and who you have not seen lately to thank them for their business. If you are trying to forge a new deal, details will come up that temporarily stall you, and you will need to work through those details.

When Mercury retrogrades, we tend to forget things, whether that be certain deal points or actual physical items that you love, like your iPhone, Dr. Dre headphones, your sunglasses, or your iPad. You might want to tape your business card to the back of your electronics and place your card inside your eyeglass case. You can’t be too careful. If a kind soul finds your missing item, make it easy for that person to be in touch with you without having to guess your password.

That reminds me – don’t buy any electronic items this month. Wait until mid-May and you will be happier with your purchase. Mercury rules all the moving parts in a machine, and the electronics too, including in a car. Make your purchase in May, with as much space of days from the day Mercury goes direct (May 3) as you can muster. Mercury will be back to full power on May 20.

When Mercury retrogrades, it is never wise to sign a contract under any conditions. If you absolutely must sign or give a verbal agreement (considered the same in astrology), keep a mental note that you might not be in that situation very long, or, you might have to change parts of the contract (hard to do after you’ve signed), or leave the endeavor altogether. Mercury rules your career progress, the prestigious solar tenth house, so plan to sign next month – I like the new moon of May 25 best for you.

When it comes to love, this month there will be one weekend just made for you, dear Sagittarius. Give a small party over the weekend of April 15-16, and you will have chosen one of the best weekends of the season to entertain stylishly.

Now let’s turn to the new and full moons of April, which hold a bit of excitement – maybe at times, a little too much excitement!

As you begin April you will be under the power of the new moon that recently appeared on March 27 in Aries, 6 degrees. That new moon stimulated your love life AND your creativity at the same time. Uranus was conjunct Mercury, the ruler of your tenth house of fame and honors, suggesting you may be taking a sudden trip to a foreign or distant city as part of your work, and it’s possible you are leaving quite spontaneously. Saturn will be in hard angle to the new moon, so be prepared to work hard and use up every minute. You long for attention from your partner, and in early April, you seem to get it.

This new moon of March 27 appeared in your fifth house of true love, so Saturn will ask you to clear the air of any little concerns you may have with your partner that have not been discussed or fully resolved over recent months. With Venus and Mercury retrograde, both planets urge you to look back, and you will get a chance to find closure. Be optimistic, for Mars (action) and Neptune (unconditional love) will work together to spread pixie dust over your love life. This means that if you do have to discuss something, be brave – it looks like true love exists, and if that is true, it can withstand a fair and loving discussion about what is troubling you or your partner.

As a side comment, Neptune also rules creativity, especially in film, photography, dance, acting, and music, so if you work in one of those fields, or in another part of the arts, you will be humming a happy tune as a result of opportunities that new moon March 27 will be sending you. Certainly you will have the element of luck in the first half of April. Show your work to the world.

If you have a birthday that falls on November 29, plus or minus five days, you will feel the effects of the March 27 eclipse the most. The same is true if you have Sagittarius rising or the natal moon in Sagittarius at 7 degrees (plus or minus five degrees) or have a natal planet in Sagittarius, Aries, or Leo, or Gemini, Libra, or Aquarius at 7 degrees (plus or minus five degrees).

Now we come to the full moon of April 10, in Libra 22 degrees, which will be the big event of the month. It will fill your house of friendships, and perhaps touch on your relationship to a group that you might belong to, such as a social or professional club, political organization, or charity. This new moon will enter escorted by Jupiter, planet of happiness, growth, prosperity, and good fortune. This so thrilling – it would be hard to imagine anything better than this. Because the moon rules your financial eighth house of other people’s money, at mid-month you will likely get news that your finances are doing outstandingly well, and a check is on the way. A friend may tell you he is going through an especially fortunate patch and you will be happy for him.

However, every plot needs drama, so here it comes. That gentle full moon of April 10, so happy with her escort Jupiter, will feel the rumblings across the sky from unpredictable, sudden, disruptive Uranus, which will directly oppose that full moon, almost to exact degree, so something is about to come up suddenly that you had never anticipated. It seems to involve a friend, or something a friend did, but it’s hard to say if you will be horrified or happy about what a friend tells you, did, or said about you. Emotions will be strong, in the extreme, on either end of the spectrum, the reason I say I cannot tell you which side of the spectrum your feelings will fall. I can absolutely say a full moon in air-sign Libra tends to go well with fire-sign Sagittarius. Everyone of every sign will feel this full moon in varying ways. Don’t put pressure on anyone at this time – the reaction could trigger a meltdown. Remember, near April 10, people will be walking on eggs and be sensitive.

If your birthday falls on December 13, you will do well, for this full moon is in sync with the degrees of your birthday Sun. The same is true if you have a natal moon or rising sign in Sagittarius, or if you have a natal planet in Sagittarius, Aries, or Leo, or Gemini, Libra, or Aquarius, in all cases at 22 degrees, plus or minus five degrees.

Now let’s switch attention to your career. Mars will be increasing your list of work projects all month until April 21. No doubt you worked hard last month, in March, because your to-do list started to grow then, and that list of yours has not stopped growing ever since. You like to stay busy and feel needed, so you won’t be complaining – you will be needed, for sure. If you were looking for more work, say, if you are self-employed and want new business, or if you want to work part time or on a project by project basis, the first three weeks of April will help you find the right opportunities for you.

If you do the groundwork in the first three weeks of April by meeting with people, showing your work, and supplying ideas of projects you’d love to do, new jobs will start to roll in to you after the sweet new moon, April 26, in Taurus 6 degrees. Indeed, you will be able to capture those jobs that you pitched earlier in the month. Neptune will send its gifts of creativity to this new moon, so if you work with creative people, are paid for your ideas, or support creative types, you stand to benefit.  You will be able to put your stamp of individuality on your work.

Saturn will also be friendly to the April 26 new moon too, so that means you might work in the financial industry, or with antiques, landmark estates, things of value from the past, or in the realm of preserving or teaching about events of the historical past, then, you, too will do well with this new moon in Taurus, falling in your sixth house of work projects. Actually, if you are an actor, costume designer, or set designer, you might be working on a historical film.

As you see, you will be very focused on work, and with friends this month. If you feel you’ve been neglecting your partner a bit, that can all change once Mars enters Gemini on April 21 to stay until June 4. If you have been trying to forge a relationship with an associate and formalize your association with a contract, Mars in Gemini will help you start talks in earnest. Plan to sign papers with the new moon in Gemini May 25 or within a few days AFTER that day.

When it comes to love, this month there will be one weekend just made for you, dear Sagittarius, to enjoy fun and love. Give a small party over the weekend of April 15-16, and you will have chosen one of the best times of the season to entertain stylishly. You need not spend a lot of money – ask guests to each bring a dish to help you out. Venus will turn direct this weekend, and although it’s a little early to kick up your heels, this weekend would be the exception, for Venus will receive a silvery beam from Mars, her cosmic lover, and set off sparks for a highly romantic episode. To get the most from this sparkling vibration, you must give your party at home, not at a restaurant or club. The transiting moon will be in Sagittarius too that weekend, so you are set to be one of the most favored of all signs this weekend for love. Have fun!

You apparently have lots to do at work, but April will bring two steps forward, one step back. Be satisfied with small victories that you will be able to make, and realize next month will be a far better time to launch new ventures and relationships. All month, projects will keep coming up at a fast clip. Mars is energizing your workaday house, and later, the new moon of April 26, will too. Mercury will retrograde in your work sector, so you will have to be extra careful to turn in accurate, well-edited work, with no typos. In email, don’t automatically hit “reply all” for someone may be on the email that should not see it. The same goes for leaving a sensitive document in the department photocopier – its contents could become office gossip that you don’t need. Once you get to early May, the characteristics of Mercury retrograde – the mix-ups, the backtracking, and miscommunications – won’t be as prevalent. You can sign contracts in May, and buy electronic items, including a car, actions you would not want to do in April.
