Work and money will be the two dominant themes of the month for you, but creativity, fitness, love, and commitment could well have a role in your January too.

When you go back to work, everyone will seem to be a little dizzy or tilted over to one side, because they will be a little tired from the holidays. Mercury started to retrograde last month on December 19 and will continue to be out of phase until January 8. This accounts for the slow start to January, but you may be glad for that. Unless you worked through the holiday season (and many do), it is admittedly hard to quickly change into high gear when the holidays are over. Still you will have to slip into alert mode sooner than your friends.

With a new moon that just appeared in your sixth house of work assignments on December 29, just days before the start of January, you will have to be ready for anything. Opportunity to shine will be everywhere, and while everyone else walks around in circles trying to get their mojo back, you’ll be at your desk with your second cup of coffee of the day, holding your clipboard, reviewing the list of things that need to be addressed instantly. It looks like VIPs will be depending on you to get things organized and into motion, and as a Leo, you are quite talented at being an effective manager. It’s also a great feeling to have a job and to be needed, don’t you agree?

With four heavenly bodies in Capricorn – the new moon, the Sun, Pluto, and Mercury – you seem to be involved with money management. Or, maybe you are concerned about a historical project, such as working on an auction of estate jewelry, the renovation of a valuable landmark building, or preserving autographs of great leaders for posterity. If you are a writer, you may be researching an historical novel. Capricorn will always be linked to history and the preservation of the past.

More likely though, planets in Capricorn point to money management and the creation of large-scale budgets. Perhaps you will be appropriating funds for your company’s 2017 expenditures. You will do well at whatever task is given to you, for you will have Mars in supportive position to the Sun, giving you energy and motivation to be energetic, thorough, and accurate.

Another bonus of the new moon that appeared just prior to January is that you may be very excited about going back to the gym and getting your body back in tip-top shape. A new moon in the sixth house, as you have just experienced, has the power to do that. While just about everyone has a New Year’s resolution to get slim, fit, and strong, you’re the only zodiac sign that can actually make a success of your health and fitness goals. Just as Mercury is turning direct, Pluto will conjunct the Sun, giving you the power to transform yourself into the person with the body you see in your mind. This month buy some new workout gear to get yourself into the right frame of mind to be fit, and you might want to treat yourself to a package of training sessions or lessons in a new sport.

All month, in a remarkable collaboration between two planets, Saturn and Uranus, you will have a chance not only to come up with an idea for an outstanding creative expression, but Uranus will give you the impetus to experiment playfully – through that process you may display a touch of genius. This trend will be evident all month.
As you get closer to January 12, the full moon in Cancer, 22 degrees, the wind will be whipping up gusts, and there will be circular currents. This is not a friendly full moon, but fortunately you seem to be on the sidelines of most of what develops, and not likely directly named in the full moon.

The Sun will conjoin Pluto, which will be helpful, for you are ruled by the Sun, and that is a powerhouse aspect. The Sun conjunct Pluto will give you authority and favor from higher ups.

The problem will be that Pluto will be in a tight clash with Uranus at that full moon, January 12, and Uranus is the planet of completely unexpected developments. You may have a problem with a partner, in love or business, because Uranus rules the seventh house of Leo’s committed, established, long-term relationships. One person who fits this description may give you pause at this time, within four days of January 12. (If you are single and dating, you will not feel this full moon with the person you are dating – this is for people in committed alliances. If you are married or living together, you might feel it, but you may just as likely have difficulties with a business collaborator or partner or even with a competitor who is not being completely ethical.

Because the full moon will fill your twelfth house, there are several ways things can play out. The twelfth house governs secrets, and because full moons bring light, a secret could come out in the open.

Long ago when I used to represent top commercial photographers for advertising campaigns, I had a full moon like yours. I heard a rumor that one of my most important photographers was about to bolt. My business partner didn’t believe this could possibly happen. She and I had developed a warm relationship with this talented photographer who shot autos on 8×10 large format camera and was based in London (we were in New York). My partner, Evelyn, was convinced what we were hearing was false. She couldn’t seriously consider a betrayal because our work was generating so many prestigious campaigns for him. She was our producer and accompanied him on the shoots with the creative directors, no matter where in the world they were based and, and I stayed back to continue to monitor the budget and correspond daily with the advertising agency.

I looked at the chart and knew the gossip to be true. I begged Evelyn to think of something to get him to stay. She felt our representation was first class and since we were getting the most prestigious automotive clients for him, billing his services at top dollar – higher than his competitors – he would never leave. She thought he would have been insane to leave, and besides, we had a very carefully written contract with him, done by my experienced lawyer. But sometimes things happen that have no rhyme or reason. As agents, we worked on commission only, and I was the one with two small children in New York City private schools, with not a dime of child support from my ex. I was for years the children’s sole support, so an event like this would be catastrophic, especially to me.

The rumor was proven to be true weeks later. It proved to be a catastrophic development when he left. In our case, we simply asked our photographer, are you leaving? He said yes and gave such a strange, misguided answer that we actually felt cheered up. It took a while to steady our boat, but these instances build resourcefulness, character, and ingenuity. We were helped by the advertising agencies who felt badly that we lost him and rallied around us by helping us find other superb talent to represent. I am not saying a catastrophic event will happen to you, but I am saying that it might be a wise idea to pay attention to a rumor if you hear of one, and to check it out.

This same full moon may deliver a very different message. You may find that you are not feeling your most energetic and are dragging your little feathers, in need rest. Or, you may be interacting with medical or dental personnel for yourself or on behalf of a friend or family member, most likely female. Or, you may hear news about a legal matter, something pertaining to your college or graduate school education, or concerning an assignment you are just about to finish writing, editing, or producing for the media. Remember, it will not affect all these areas, just one, if any at all. Full moons move to cleanse a situation, but if there is nothing to bring to light, you will sail through this period easily.

Now let’s turn to your romantic life. If you hope to take a serious new step in a relationship, such as to get engaged or married, you will have a superb opportunity in the two weeks after the lovely new moon, January 27-28 in Aquarius 8 degrees. That timing would be perfect for Valentine’s Day.

You can formalize a business relationship or a romantic one, but you must move fast. This is important! Venus will retrograde from March 4 to April 15, and you will feel the effects of this a bit before and after. Venus won’t be fully back to her best shape until May 18.

Venus rules your love life, your money, and your appearance. Let’s look at all three. If you get engaged with Venus retrograde, you may find the affection during the entire term of the on-going relationship to be less than fulfilling.

Many astrologers feel that if you are single, it’s not wise to begin a new love relationship either during this six-week period. I say, stay home with a good book during this phase and you’ll be well-read and quite fascinating when you come out of hibernation.

Venus rules your appearance, so you must not make radical changes to your looks during its retrograde such as to cut your hair in a very different style, or to color it differently, say, from black to platinum blonde. Men should not shave off their long-worn beard or grow one. You can do normal grooming, such as to schedule trims, waxing, pedicures, and manicures, but no drastic changes.

Plastic surgery is out, and I would wait for the time beyond May 18 to do any plastic surgery. For something important like the topics you and I have been discussing like plastic surgery, marriage, or the start of a business relationship, I would advise you to also avoid Mercury retrograde. The upcoming Mercury retrograde periods will be April 9 to May 3, and after that, August 12 to September 5, and then December 3 to 22, 2017. Don’t get too close to any of these dates.

In case you were counting on taking it easy when you return to work after the holidays, that is not likely to happen. The new moon of December 29, still exerting a strong influence in the first half of January, is about to bring up a number of new assignments. It also looks like everyone in the department will be depending on you, so don’t even THINK of slacking off or going on vacation.

A focus on financials will form a big theme in January. Planets in Capricorn are urging you to get budgets in shape, whether at work, at home or both. Start by preparing for filing your taxes by sending your accountant an organized summary of receipts. In addition, Mars and Neptune are orbiting together in your eighth house of shared finances, ruling estates, inheritance, credit, court settlements, and the like, for you may need to get to the bottom of a financial mystery. Keep digging.

The full moon of January 12 is in Cancer, and in very strong and positive angle to Mars and Neptune, so you may then finalize your hunt for financial facts. Still, this full moon will exert a frenzied mood to everyone of every sign, and do it in different ways. Because Uranus, planet of all things unexpected, will challenge the moon to exact tight degree, travel to distant points would be very difficult at the time of this full moon for you, and is not recommended on or within five days of January 12.

If you work with people in an international setting, a project may take an unexpected turn that rattles you. The money being paid to you will likely be generous, however, so that might make you willing to good-naturedly conform to the requests of your boss or client.

The new moon January 27-28 will have you thinking about taking the next step in a relationship. If you have been dating a long time, the prospect of marriage will be within view. If you are newly dating, you may simply promise to be exclusive to one another or, if you know one another well, to move in together. If married, it will be time to draw up new, exciting goals to tackle together.

If you have no partner, but regularly hire people on a one-on-one basis in your work, you may be forming a new and important collaboration. This would be the time to engage one special person as a partner who has the skills you need to get ahead. This person might be a formal business partner, specialized lawyer, accountant, manager, agent, publicist, writing partner, drama couch, or other person who is qualified to get you where you need to be.

In terms of love, as you see, the attached Leos will be favored, but single Leos, keep the faith, and be patient. Next month Valentine’s Day looks bright.

That new moon of January 28 will be in Aquarius, the sign ruling astrology, so you may want to take in a lecture or course to better understand how this ancient subject works. Or you may take a membership in the planetarium, being determined to attend the various lectures and enjoy all you learn about the science of the planets.
