You seem to have been focused on your home for some time, but may have taken a break during the year-end holidays. Things started up again with full force at the new moon of late last month, December 29. That new moon was in Capricorn 8 degrees, lighting your fourth house of home and family. As you enter January, this is where your true heart lies.
You might be saying to yourself, “Actually, I am tired of all this hard work, even if I do have workmen to help me accomplish the project.” Planets in Capricorn can be hard for you at times, for Capricorn is not a sign that blends easily or naturally with yours. When planets clash, adjustments are always necessary, but here is the good news: at the same time, hard aspects always create energy and productivity. In that respect, the universe always supplies the tools we need to deal well with any challenges the universe asks us to face.
If you are not moving, doing a thorough cleaning, refurbishing, repairing, decorating, or decluttering, you may be thinking about one of your parents, or someone you view as a parent. Family will continue to be number one for you through most of January, and you will be able to help that person in many ways.
You have the new moon in Capricorn 8 degrees in your fourth house of home and family, and this lovely new moon has appeared with her entourage of the Sun, Pluto, and Mercury. Pluto rules the evolution of things, for this planet breaks things down and then helps you rebuild what was taken away. This means your project could be characterized as two steps forward and one step back, but that’s to be expected. Be grateful your workmen are finding the problems now and not later. All spaces have these challenges – you will see results soon and they will please you. All your hard work will prove very worth your effort.
If you are working on a beautification project for your home or landscape, you will enjoy having creative Neptune on your side in early January, for Neptune will make sure your choices are graceful, stylish ones. Neptune is in the perfect place in the heavens to be able to assist you in your goal. Make your biggest design choices in early January, after Mercury turns direct, January 8. Don’t buy any electronic items, such as a smart TV, new phone, including appliances or a car until you get as far beyond January 8 as possible. If you have an expensive purchase to make and want ideal conditions, then wait until Mercury will ramp up to former power, January 28. There is an exception.
Today, Mercury caused havoc in my life. I was recovering from a root canal, and the specialist dentist said, wait to see if that tooth calms down – if you have pain, call me. I have pain today, and it worries me. I can’t stop writing, however, so I am trying to eat on the other side.
Then my phone rang. It was a call from my director at the large publishing house in Turkey telling me that the magazine I have written for during the past ten years was folding today. I would no longer work for Tempo in Istanbul, a magazine that was quite beautiful, much like the American magazine Vanity Fair. Too much was going on in Turkey, as we all see on the news, and the company was consolidating its publications.
After the call, I went to the coffee shop I like to write in, and a man who I didn’t know suddenly spilled coffee accidently all over my computer. The manager of the coffee shop brought me paper towels immediately and realized the seriousness of what had just happened, but the man seemed oblivious, so I let him be. He didn’t do it on purpose. I couldn’t really be mad at him.
I immediately took a taxi to Apple in a state of panic, saying prayers in route. The man at Apple told me I needed a new computer, or take my chances and wait two weeks until the computer came back from Apple’s repair facility. I had to write, and I didn’t want to lease or borrow a computer. Three hours later, I had a new laptop computer Apple helped me set up. Forget the money – at this stage I was spending so much between my root canal, two crowns, and my computer nightmares, it seemed like make-believe Monopoly money.
To buy the computer, I could not wait for Mercury to be done retrograding, but the very problem was probably caused by the retrograde. That is an important point. I had already been attacked, so I was “safe” to buy the new one! I had two extra laptop computers at home, but one was for my assistant. The other, my backup laptop, was also suddenly acting strange and I didn’t want to take a chance. It kept turning itself off after five minutes, and I had been planning to bring it in, which I will do now. I continually upgrade all my computers, but Mercury was getting his little claws into me today.
After I bought my new laptop, I also I also had to take a taxi to another, a specialty tech service to see if my year-old damaged laptop could be fixed – otherwise Apple would have to send out.
When I got to the tech service, I had a stroke of luck. The lady taking my name immediately realized I wrote Astrology Zone, which she said that she reads every month, so she went into the back of the store behind closed doors where the techs work to say, this customer really does need her data retrieval done fast – she’s got January’s Libra in the damaged computer. You have to get in there to send her the copy she’s already written so far. The compassionate tech man sent me my Libra copy by email.
So, as you see by this little story, if Mercury causes the problem, you can buy the new electronic, but be careful. I am so frustrated today, it’s hard to concentrate! I am learning a new system here, and it’s all taking precious minutes amid all the pressure. I am afraid to call the dentist to tell him that tooth is STILL in trouble, because I will lose more time. Oh, Mercury!
All this against a background of my team saying, could you write faster? My editor called to say she had a stomach virus that was going around. She is also snowed in and could lose electricity any minute. Mercury was not only holding me down with a strong grip, but practically strangling me.
I tell you this story so you know that at times, you are forced to get a new computer during the retrograde, and there is nothing much you can do about it. I feel under these situations it is ok to do if Mercury caused the problem in the first place – you will have used up the difficult Mercury aspects. Being at a repair shop is a hallmark of Mercury retrograde visit.
Let’s now turn to the full moon, January 12, which will not be an easy one. This full moon will fall in Cancer, 22 degrees, and will light your tenth house of fame and honors, so a career development is coming to culmination within four days of this date. Overall, you seem to be torn between the demands of all that is going on with home and family, and those at work. If you are not part of the workforce, you may feel you have much to do for a club committee or any other community event.
At the full moon, Uranus and Pluto will be close enough to a 90-degree square and that is a challenging aspect. Powerhouse Pluto is in your house of home while Uranus, planet of sudden news, will be in your partnership house. This suggests that your spouse or steady date, or someone you are in an alliance with in business, is likely to do something impulsive that will set you on edge. It may help to know that no one, of any sign, will have an easy time with this full moon. If your birthday falls on October 14 plus or minus four days, you do have to brace for something to come up, but everyone will feel some of the strains of this full moon.
Speaking of work, all month Mars will tour Pisces and bring lots of work to do. If you work, you will have more than your share of assignments. If you are looking for work, all kinds of jobs are available to you in January if you look for them. Venus is touring the same house, so you will be popular with co-workers, and you may find that they want to help you learn the ropes.
You should be able to uncover freelance work or more permanent work similar to the kind of work you did before. It would not be a step up to a better job unless you manage to make the full moon of January 12 work for you. You might – I cannot see all that is in your chart, so you may have some excellent aspects to help you in ways that I cannot see from where I sit.
If you are self-employed, Mars in this house, along with Venus and Neptune, should help you generate business too. If you are in a creative field, Neptune will help you even more.
The strong emphasis on your sixth house will motivate you to go back to the gym to get strong and fit. Hire a trainer if you like, or take lessons in a new sport. You may want to gently refine your diet too, to eat more healthy foods. I heard on the news today that a habit takes three months, which I always thought was the case, not three weeks. Do anything for three months, and you are all set – it becomes a natural way of living. With Venus in Pisces with Mars, you will start to look better instantly, and others will give you compliments.
Romantically, you are in luck! The new moon of January 27-28 will brighten your fifth house of true love. From that point on, if are single and you circulate, you will find meeting new people easier than ever. This new moon is a peach, so by all means go out with confidence. Places where you might meet include the gym or sporting events, where you are a spectator or participant. You may meet at the office, when a person on your own level catches your eye. Or, a business collaborator, like your agent or writing partner may make an introduction.

At work, lots of activity will go on, and you will also need to be vigilant to make sure a project is moving in the right direction. Keep looking over subordinates’ work for possible errors, typos, and wrong assumptions. On one hand, the assignments will be very imaginative, allowing much room for creativity, but on the other hand, not everyone will be clear about what needs to be done.
You will you need to hover over the people who work for you at home too. Indeed, a home-related project might go off in the wrong direction just as you were hoping to get it finished at the full moon, January 12. Things finish at a full moon, so this may mark deadline time. If you need to pitch an idea or new business, this might be when you will do it.
