Think back to where you were before Pluto entered your sign in 2008 and how much you have grown since then. Pluto is associated with financial markets, so in 2008 much of the world saw the collapse of the financial markets in America and difficulties with markets in some countries in Europe. Pluto’s job was to point out the cracks in the foundations so that they can be fixed. His work is slow and methodical, so the subsequent years have brought much discussion about how banking practices can be improved, and how individuals can best assess what they can and can’t afford. You may have come to a new approach to money matters in your own life since that time, and if so, you can expect much more benefits from Pluto, beyond financial ones.
Pluto rules treasures that are not visible, but rather buried deep down in the earth and must be extracted and refined before they can be used for gain. Diamonds are one example, oil is another. You have talents within you, and during this trend, they can be brought to light if you commit to developing them. This new moon – the one that just occurred on December 29 – will underscore these themes of fresh opportunities to reinvent yourself in any way you like. Do so this month, especially in the first half of January.
Mercury in Capricorn will still be retrograde, continuing a trend that started December 19 and that will finish on January 8. That means you have time to think and reexamine your assumptions, for it’s not wise to begin new ventures when Mercury is retrograde. It’s also not wise to run up against the January 8 date – leave as much space from that date as possible. Mercury will make steady progress to resume its former strength, reaching that point of full strength on and after January 28. Unless you have something of enormous importance that you are planning, you don’t have to wait until late January to act.
You may have laid the groundwork to your future while Mars was in Capricorn from September 27 through early November 9. That was a potent time for you, but if you were concentrating on other matters, you will have a second chance now to do so – you must take it. Use this new moon period (that appeared December 29 and will continue to influence you until January 10) to take a step toward a goal that is deeply important to you.
If your birthday falls on December 29 plus or minus five days, the new moon will be vital to you, not only this month but for a full year, until the next new moon returns to refresh the Capricorn energy and highlight a different Capricorn birthday next year. (In 2018 the new moon will highlight those born within five days of January 16.) It’s rare to see a new moon on your birthday, so realize the year to come will be very special.
This year, if you are not born within five days of December 29, you can still reap benefits from this new moon in Capricorn 8 degrees. If you have Capricorn rising at that degree, plus or minus five degrees, you too will have a big year ahead. Also, if you have your natal horoscope, look to see if you have a natal planet within five degrees of 8 degrees Capricorn, Virgo, Taurus, or Cancer, Scorpio, or Pisces. Watch that planet – you will see benefits from the place that planet occupies in your chart.
While you are planning to make your first steps toward your biggest goal, I want you to wait until you get beyond the full moon in Cancer 22 degrees, due January 12. This will be a difficult full moon because Pluto will be conjunct the Sun and oppose the moon in Cancer 22 degrees. Uranus, from your house of home, will be in hard 90-degree angle to this full moon, and Jupiter, also in hard angle to Uranus and Pluto at 90 degrees, from your tenth house of career honors. The focus will be your partner, who appears to be unhappy about something. (Or, vice versa, you may be the one upset with your partner.) Or, it may be that you’ve had to move residences quite a bit recently and now in your new apartment or house, it is clear that your partner does not like it. Or, family may have intervened and put in their opinions, and their butting in could be harming your relationship with your partner. Jupiter will oppose Uranus, so you will feel demands of work are clashing with those at home, and you may long to be free of all constraints, limitations, and responsibilities – you have been under quite a bit of prolonged stress. This is a full moon, so something has been brewing for a while and is now coming to the surface and must be dealt with head on.
You do have enormous help from Mars, a positive development, suggesting talking through a conflict of opinions can dissolve difficulties. (Mars is in your communication sector.) Also, if the matter involves family, there is some indication that your sister or brother might be helpful, perhaps defending your point of view in ways that you can’t quite do yourself.
A cardinal cross will appear in the sky at this full moon, January 12, causing a box pattern involving Pluto and the Sun, Uranus, Jupiter, and the full moon. With a closed box, energy cannot escape, and that is the source of the tension – like a fly in a hot pot it buzzes all around, seeking escape, but with the lid on the pot, the fly finds no way out. You CAN find a way out, for full moons generate a lot of emotion, but as the full moon wanes, the discussions dissolve. Family or housing appears to be the unpredictable element in the equation, for Uranus is in that area of your chart covering them. Remember, you have help from Mars, and Mars is the natural ruler of your fourth house of home. It could be that a family member becomes ill and needs your urgent attention, and in doing all that needs to be done, causes a bit of chaos.
If your birthday falls on January 12, plus or minus four days, you will feel this full moon the most in terms of how you are interacting with a partner, most likely your spouse or steady sweetheart. Having a full moon on your birthday indicates many things in your life are reaching fruition, and a final stage. By your next birthday you will need a new set of goals, for you will have reached the goals you most wanted to achieve.
Month’s end will bring a gentle new moon, January 27-28, which will light your second house of earned income. The emotional content of the month will be over, and by time you get to month’s end, you can think about your finances. This will be a good tie to ask for a raise – the best time of all of 2017.
Mars will move into your home sector on January 28, so from then and continuing until March 9, you will again be thinking about your home or family matters. Mars usually brings noise and action, so you might have workmen over to complete a project, or you may have planned to do important entertaining. It is also possible you will host a guest in your home, perhaps a family member, who will stay in your guest room. More attention to your living situation or family will take place at the new moon April 15. It appears the situation you are dealing with is not one that can be solved quickly but will take time, some deep thinking and discussion.
If you can travel this month, it would be a wonderful idea. You need not go far, but make it a romantic setting near water or snow, for planets in Pisces are coaxing you in that direction. Venus will be very close to Mars by the last few days of January – close enough to touch. You will be able to forget your everyday cares and give in to love, sweet love. Venus in Pisces from January 3 to February 3 is a blessing to single and attached Capricorns. You need love and affection, and this month you can have it.

Mercury will be retrograde in Capricorn until January 8, the reason you will need to wait a bit before putting plans in action. When Mercury retrogrades, it is always a sign that the wind is changing direction. During the first week, spend time thinking about your strategy and watch for news of any possible changes that might influence your decisions.
Certainly, as soon as you are back at your desk, your weekdays will swirl with phone calls, emails, texts, and meetings. The new moon was in perfect angle to Mars, so it looks like you’ll be traveling short distances during the first half of January, possibly over a long weekend for relaxation. The little Goat loves to be near snowy mountain ranges, and with planets in Pisces, you will also want to be near water too, so consider going to a lodge near a lake or go skiing at a resort. Venus, Mars, and Neptune will all be in Pisces, and when the two cosmic lovers, Venus and Mars, cuddle up near January 27, you can have an outstandingly romantic or social experience, weaving a tapestry you will always remember.
Your marriage or a business partner may prove to be troublesome at the full moon on January 12, plus four days. Your client or business partner / collaborator may want to leave, putting you in a quandary about what to do. Or, a family member may voice an opinion about your partner that you feel is jarring, out of character, and perhaps inappropriate to say. Alternatively, one of your parents may need your help and full attention, but your partner may not understand the urgency of the situation. If it is not a family member that causes a bit of upset, it may be your home or other property that needs attention. Whatever comes up, it’s bound to make you feel emotional, and in your rush to fix things, you may be tempted to overdo, a bit like taking hammer to hit a gnat. You’ll do best to use a gentle touch.
There will be one more theme emerging in January as you get near the new moon, January 27-28, and it will involve the new moon in Aquarius, falling in your house of salary and other earned income. The days following the new moon will be your best time of 2017 to ask for a raise, but you must act quickly. Gather up your courage and make the appointment with your boss. If you are self-employed, you can now generate new business and also gently raise your rates. If you work in high technology, electronics, app or software development, medical, biological or scientific research, genetics, astrophysics, or any of the social or humanitarian sciences, you will do exceptionally well. Even if you don’t work in these “Aquarian” fields, you still will do well for this new moon wants to reward you. Be courageous.
