The confetti has settled, the music has stopped, and everyone is heading back to work – except you. You seem to have worked extra hard in December, so the universe is planning a special January, filled with fun, friends, and lots of fresh starts.

The new moon’s energy of late last month (December 27) will dominate the themes of early and late January. You will be with many friends, and many new faces will surround you too. All your personal growth will emanate from the new people you meet and the loyal friends you also have who will surround you and support you.

I will tell you all about this wildly social month, but first, let’s talk about the superb place Mars, the energy planet, has taken up, in Pisces. Mars first entered Pisces on December 19 and will continue to favor your sign above all others until January 27. This is your time to run with the banner, for you have the stage, and everyone is being attentive to all you have to say. When Mars conjoins your Sun, which will happen this month, it means you are setting off on a new and highly successful two-year cycle.

Decide how you would like to direct this energy. Are you hoping to find love? Mars will make you more attractive and raise your profile, so you will have to get used to the extra attention others will bestow on you. Remarkably, Venus will be in Pisces too, which will give you even more charisma and popularity. Neptune will be very close to Mars, so you may be filmed on TV, or have a film or photo of you on an Internet website or blog, or on social media.

There is one caveat that I need to mention about Mars’ proximity to Neptune. They will join forces in the first few days of January, and this can be a potent, but not always positive, mix. On the plus side, Mars with Neptune will stimulate your imagination and help you create work of great beauty and grace. However, Neptune rules alcohol and mind-altering substances, and Mars rules force.

If you are going to a party (it looks like you will be invited to something festive this month), choose a designated driver ahead of time, or order a car service like Uber. Don’t drink and drive, don’t use substances and drive, and don’t text and drive. You may think you are in control, but the other driver may not be – your faculties will need to be and stay razor sharp. Neptune can make your reactions slow, and that can be dangerous. Also, wear a seat belt, even if you are in the back seat of a car. My job is to keep you safe and happy, for you have so much to look forward to this month, and during the entire year to come.

In your career, things are going gangbusters. It is hard to imagine how they could go better! You are working very hard, and apparently, you have racked up many wonderful victories in 2016. VIPs respect and admire your efforts, and it is clear that each day your reputation for fine work has grown. You may not be aware that you are being taught to stretch to meet new, more complex standards, and that you are on your way, moving from one level of expertise to another, more prestigious level.

What planet could possibly have helped you achieve all this? You have hosted Saturn in Sagittarius in your tenth house of fame and honors for two years, since December 23, 2014. In that time, Saturn has tutored you for success. If you have worked with teacher Saturn and measured up to his tests and challenges, you are on your way to become a force to be reckoned with in your industry. Dealing with Saturn’s vigorous boot camp training is hard, and there may have been days you said to yourself, gee, I volunteered for this! This is akin to becoming a Navy SEAL! These periods are never easy, as Saturn demands much and gives very few rewards while you are under his tutelage. Rewards will come after he leaves, and they will be very generous – have faith that all your hard work will be worthwhile. You will still have one year to go before Saturn is set to leave your house of fame and honors, on December 19, 2017.

Saturn’s visits are rare, coming by every 29 years, so we only get two or possibly three visits of Saturn in a lifetime. Think of Saturn as a high-priced expert you hired to teach you how to become the force you were meant to be in your industry. Think back to where you were in 2012, 2013, and early 2014 and see how far you have come since then. Back at the new moon in Sagittarius in late November, you were given another shot at career growth last month, in December. Sagittarius is a sign linked to international application, so your work may become known to others in one or more foreign countries. Last month there was the most pressure on you to perform, and you did – beautifully – but this month will be very different. You can have the fun you may have felt you missed out on in December.

The new emphasis will be on your meeting and greeting others. Last month, just a few tiny days prior to the New Year, the new moon in Capricorn appeared on December 29. This lovely new moon will dominate your social opportunities in January. That new moon arrived arm-in-arm with the Sun, and as part of her entourage, with Pluto and Mercury. For three weeks, these heavenly bodies will fill your solar eleventh house of friends, contacts, acquaintances, clubs, societies, and charities.

To say you are about to meet many new people in January is an understatement – you will meet more people in January that you met all last year! You will enlarge your circle of personal and professional friends substantially. You may be attending a party or mixer, schedule dinners with friends, attend or judge an award show, give or attend a book signing, or chair a charity benefit. You may be asked to speak at a function and be a riotous success.

Pluto’s strong presence at this new moon suggests you will be transformed and enlightened by the people you meet. Pluto is associated with successful, powerful types, and you may get a professional tip or a new business idea from one or more of the new people you circulate with as you go on your rounds. If you meet someone interesting in your field, be the first to suggest you get together again after the event to trade thoughts and ideas.

Mercury is part of this Capricorn gathering of planets in your friendship sector, and Mercury is still retrograde until January 8, suggesting that you may see one person from your past that you have not seen in a long time. You will be happy to catch up, and being the prescient person you are, you may sense that there must be a reason the two of you were meant to meet again now. It will be up to you to decide, but you may have a project to do together this year. As said, Mercury will go direct quickly this month, on January 8, having been retrograde since December 19, so you will likely come across that old friend in January’s first week. (You may have had this experience in late December or will in January.)

I love the aspects to this new moon. They have none of the weighty seriousness of planets that were prevailing last month, ones that forced you to concentrate on work projects to get them as perfect as possible. If you felt eyes were on you to see how you would do, you were right. You passed those tests, which is why you can play in January.

Mars in Pisces will be in gorgeous angle to the January new moon (that new moon, as you may recall, actually arrived December 29), suggesting that you might travel at some time during this month. Travel would be a good idea, for being in a new setting, when you return, you’ll feel refreshed and rejuvenated.

It’s also possible that you will have a writing assignment this month to complete – a report, manuscript, research project, or something else related to writing. If this is true for you, you would be very involved with that project and do really well with it.

Alternatively, you may have papers to sign, and if your lawyer says the contract is ready for your signature, do it AFTER Mercury turns direct, January 8. Leave as many days’ space from January 8 as you can, for no planet jumps back into strong shape immediately. Mercury will require time to regain his balance, so don’t be too impulsive. If you can wait for month’s end, near January 27, do.

This new moon that will have such a strong influence on you in early January will also receive a silvery, shimmering beam from Neptune, your ruler and planet of imagination, also in Pisces. In early January, you will be at your creative best, especially in the first half of January when you should focus your attention on artistic, creative pursuits. If you are writing a screenplay, a novel, poetry, music, or any manuscript that requires a special, lyrical, cinematic touch, this month will bring the inspiration you need. A friend may be the spark that sets off this cascade of gorgeous vibrations.

There is something else to cheer about! The eleventh house that will be so lit up for you this month also is the house of hopes and wishes. Something you dearly want – and have wanted for a very long time – may now be realized for you. It may be something material or spiritual – you will know when it arrives. By that I mean, do you want a new computer (material)? Or do you hope to find someone new (spiritual)? Do you want to have a baby (spiritual) or go on an awe-inspiring vacation (material)? Stay optimistic – one dream may come true in January.

Every Pisces will benefit from the aspects I have described this month. If your birthday falls on February 26, plus or minus five days, you will get a double dip of pleasure from this new moon in your friendship sector. The same is true if you have Pisces rising 8 degrees, the moon in Pisces, or a natal planet at that degree, as long as that natal planet is found in Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio, Virgo, Taurus, or Capricorn.

By January 12, you have a full moon in Cancer 22 degrees that will light your fifth house of true love. Cancer blends magnificently with your water-sign Pisces Sun. If you are single, you may meet someone new at this full moon, or you may see a development with someone you have been dating. Or this full moon may bring a creative project to a conclusion, and you would be very proud of it. If you have a child, you may near good news about her, or want to do something special for him. Or if you were hoping to get pregnant, you may near news that you are having a baby. If you are nearing delivery, this full moon could bring the baby’s birth. All full moons are influential within four days of the date of any full moon.

There are financial considerations at this full moon, however, so you might find events tension producing. Uranus in your house of earned income, savings, and possessions will oppose Jupiter, in your eighth house of other people’s money, covering such topics as credit cards, child support, and so forth. Jupiter, however, never afflicts. (That means Jupiter does not cause harm.) You may worry about temporary cash flow tightness when an event you dearly want to participate in will not be possible because of the cost. Or, you do go ahead with the event, but watch spending the entire time. Pluto will conjunct that full moon, so you know that many important people will populate the event, so you are right, it may be well worth your time to attend. See how you feel.

I feel that all Pisces have something to gain from the January 12 full moon, despite the challenges from Uranus and Pluto. If your birthday falls on March 11, plus or minus five days, you will feel the effects of this new moon the most. The same is true if you have Pisces rising, the natal moon in Pisces, or a natal planet in Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio, Virgo, Taurus, or Capricorn at 22 degrees, plus or minus five degrees.

The end of the month might be strenuous and you may suddenly feel a need for rest. The new moon will appear on January 28. This is the Chinese New Year, by the way, and as always, the first new moon in Aquarius is the start of the New Year in China. Like the Chinese, Western astrologers put a great deal of emphasis on new moons, for new moons come laden with opportunity.

This January 28 new moon will sharpen your intuition, which, as noted earlier, is always strong in you, dear Pisces. Now you will hear the tug of your inner voice, and you must follow it, for when your instinct is telling you something, it may take time for you to get the facts. Later you will know why your intuition was right all along. The new moon January 28 will give you sharp night vision, to see what others fail to see. It will be a great protection to you. This is also a great time to see a coach or therapist if anything has troubled you.

At the very end of January, Venus in Pisces and Mars in Pisces will be very close, making you outstandingly alluring. This is a rare situation – Venus is happiest when she is with her lover Mars, but usually these two loving planets are found very far from each other, so all they can do is gaze upon one another. At the end of January, they will be near enough to almost embrace (to actually touch February 3). Love should be sensational, dear Pisces, all month, but especially at month’s end. Circulate! If you are attached, you will get plenty of attention from your one-and-only, which is always delicious.

Summary

You enter January filled with optimism and energy, for Mars is still in your sign, a place Mars entered on December 19, and will stay until January 28. Everyone wants Mars in their sign – Mars gives courage, determination, and a sexy quality to you that others can’t fail to notice. You will easily attract the help and favor of VIPs now, and in your personal life, if you are single and hope to meet someone new, Mars will increase your power of attraction. Many people enter January slowly, still a bit sleepy from the buzz of the holidays, but not you – you’ll be the leader of the brigade.

One outstanding point to note is that Venus and Mars, the cosmic lovers, will both be in Pisces this month and orbit within a very significant proximity at the very last week of January. This will be a highly electric time for you – romance may be off the charts!

Mercury is still retrograde, a situation that was in place since December 19, but will go direct on January 8. Do not to launch anything new until you get well past that date, for conditions around you will continue to be in flux. Until you have the lay of the land, you won’t be able to make informed decisions. That hard part about Mercury retrograde is that everything looks just as they were, but are not.
