This month will be all about money – managing it, spending it, and finding ways to make more money. You seem to want to get a head start on doing your taxes, and may be busy gathering up receipts, and organizing them before you go to your accountant. As a Sagittarian, you are happier spending your time reading and debating intellectual concepts with friends and family than on focusing on money. Yet this month, the planets are about to make you fairly obsessed with dealing with all kinds of financial matters.

January 1 begins with a full moon in Cancer, 12 degrees, lighting your eighth house of other people’s money. You likely will be paying bills, for the house this full moon is lighting, the house of other people’s money, refers to your credit cards, bank loans, and student loans. It also rules child support, taxes, commissions, bonuses ad insurance payouts for claims, and taxes. This is why I feel you have been (and will continue to be) doing savvy tax planning.

Full moons bring a finish to matters ruled by the house where the full moon appears, and this time, for you, the emphasis is on your solar eighth house, a part of the chart that is mainly about money. You typically feel the effect of a full moon several days before and after the full moon occurs. You may have been pre-paying certain bills that you know will come due in 2018. You may have received money owed to you in the last days of December, or will in the first week of January.

This full moon is a bouquet of shining stars. A golden triangle appears in the sky, linking this golden full moon to Jupiter and Mars, the planets of good fortune and action, respectively. This is powerful – you may receive a considerable sum of money, or be given a valuable gift. At the third leg of the golden triangle, the full moon will receive a silvery beam from Neptune in your house of home and family, bringing good news from that quarter as well.

A lesser-known side of the eighth house, besides money, has to do with surgery. Being the house of transformation, the ancient astrologers wrote that the surgeon takes out the part of you that is making you ill or uncomfortable, and transforms you to health. Some Sagittarians will be going in for an operation, and with such good aspects, the surgery should make you feel better as you heal.

After the full moon is over, you will see a string of happy days coming one right after the other. Extraordinary! You will want to take note of these.

The first day to circle on your calendar will be January 6, when Mars and Jupiter will conjoin, bringing two marvelous twinkling stars in a rare and wonderful aspect. Mars meets with Jupiter every two years, always in a different sign, so the last time these two Titans of the zodiac met up in Scorpio it was August 8, 1982. This won’t happen again until November 24, 2053, so you will want to use this special aspect.

The way you can use Saturday, January 6, as well as the day before, Friday, January 5, is to have a confidential meeting. Jupiter and Mars will meet in your twelfth house, ruling strategy, planning, and the shaping of creative ideas. Hatching a new creative idea is very much part of this aspect and very favored for you, because Mars naturally rules your solar fifth house of creativity. Jupiter is your ruling planet, so while everyone of every sign will love this day, you will love it more, for Jupiter will add weight and importance to the configuration. Jupiter is the planet that brings good fortune, and Mars adds the rocket fuel, so on these two days, take an action on a plan, for if you plant the seed, it is likely to grow and flourish.

Then on Monday, January 8, Jupiter will reach out to the Sun, in a beautiful trine position, considered the most harmonious aspect possible. The Sun is currently in your earned income area (second house) so this day a meeting could lead to a hefty fee or to get a salary raise. Jupiter never thinks in small terms – he expands everything he touches. On January 8, think big!

Another stellar day is Tuesday, January 9, when Venus will receive signals from both Mars and Jupiter – wow! Again, a confidential meeting brings money to your coffers, and possibly in a big way.

Now we get to a huge moment of the month, the new moon, January 16 in Capricorn at 27 degrees. In a remarkable confluence of events, you will have the new moon, Sun, Venus, Mercury, Saturn, and Pluto gathered in your second house of earned income. The highest number of planets we can ever see in one house is currently six. Back on May 3, 2000, we had seven planets in Taurus. At the time, I was on CNN with Paula Zahn and scientist Jack Horkheimer, and Mr. Horkheimer agreed there was an unusual alignment of seven planets that day in May 2000, but he confirmed that we would never see seven aligned again in one sign. We would see six, however, and that would happen on January 16, 2018.

A new moon always brings new opportunities, and in your case, it will be a chance to make money. Luckily, Jupiter and Mars will both send golden beams to your income sector. This suggests that talks that come up could have powerful profit potential. This buildup of planets in Capricorn is forming an engine in your second house of personal money, and nearly everything you do will be run by this house. How you decide to appropriate the money you have at your disposal this month will have an effect on you now and in the coming six months, and possibly longer.

There is a problem with this new moon in that Uranus will be angry that he was not invited to this Capricorn party, and standing at a harsh 90-degree angle from his perch in Aries and your fifth house, he will taunt the Sun, new moon, Venus, and to some degree, Pluto. Uranus is in your creative house, so it’s possible a creative idea will suddenly require more funding than you ever imagined. You might have to trim the idea, which is always a painful process for a creative person to do. This makes me sad to say, so I hope this does not apply to you.

It’s alternatively possible that a pregnancy or care for a child (in any form) will suddenly cost you quite a bit of money – more than you anticipated. It could be the cost of freezing your eggs if you are woman reader who would like to do that, or the cost of in-vitro fertilization if you are attached and as a couple, you have had problems with conception. If you are in love and dating someone, do not loan money to that person, for you are unlikely to see that sum repaid to you.

Until month’s end, Mars will light your house of privacy and seclusion, suggesting you will be busy putting finishing touches on a major project before showing it to the world.

Happily, Mars will allow you to push your idea or project out in the open for all to see when it moves into Sagittarius on January 26 to stay until March 17.

This will be the most important part of the year for you to push through your biggest ideas. You will have the podium, the spotlight, and the microphone; and influential people will sit up and take notice of all you have to say. VIPs will be impressed with your courage, energy, and drive, and will be drawn to want to help you reach your goals. This is no time to be shy or to think on a small scale. You only get Mars every two years in your own sign, and once you have it, as you will starting on January 26, you must use it.

Things will improve even more as you get to the end of the month. Eclipse season is back, and the first one of the year is coming up as a full moon lunar eclipse on January 31, in Leo, 12 degrees. This eclipse will turn your attention away from money. The sign the eclipse will fall, Leo, is one that blends beautifully with your Sagittarius Sun. This eclipse will bring to fullness talks you have been having abroad, or plans for a trip you will make there.

The same house that is hosting this full moon eclipse on January 31 also rules the media in terms of broadcasting (radio, TV, podcasting) and publishing (books, magazines, Internet, e-books, and the like.) Something you may be doing involving these activities may be reaching culmination too.

If you are going to college, as an undergraduate or graduate student, or are a professor, you may be making an important decision, and whatever it is, things should go well.

If you are an adult, can you recall anything important that happened on January 31, 1999? At that time we had the same lunar eclipse, in Leo at 11 degrees. If you can recall something that occurred, the theme may be repeated now. Also think back to last year’s eclipses, February 11, August 7 and August 21. If an important matter occurred then, talks may be advanced to a new level now. You are done with Mercury retrograde in December – frustrations abounded – but now you have only blue skies and open road ahead. This is all very exciting.

The Sagittarians who will feel this eclipse most will be the ones born within five days, before or after, December 3. The same is true if you have Sagittarius rising or the natal moon in Sagittarius at 11 degrees, or if you have a natal planet in Sagittarius, Leo, Aries, Gemini, Libra, or Aquarius at 11 degrees, plus or minus five degrees.

This will be a highly productive month, and that is sure to please you!

Summary

From the start of January, you will be managing your money. The full moon, January 1, will fall in your second house of earned income. You will be paying bills, but if you did finish up a special assignment in late December, you may be receiving a large check as the year begins. The same is true if someone owes you money – you either just received it in the last days of December or will in early January.

If you find you need additional funds to cover an expense, you will be able to find them in the first week of January. Jupiter, your ruler, will combine energies with Mars, the planet of action, in your most private and hidden part of your chart. This suggests you will be having private talks, or working on privileged research or a creative project that must be under wraps, away from prying eyes. If you have a confidential meeting to schedule, or a job interview that you need to keep secret, use January 5 or 6.

Mars and Jupiter will also both be in fine angle to Neptune in your home sector, so if you have a home-related project in mind, the same two days (January 5-6) will be superb ones to see progress.

By January 16 and beyond, you are likely to be even more obsessed with financial management. Six out of a possible ten heavenly bodies will fill your second house of income, including the Sun, new moon, Mercury, Venus, Saturn, and Pluto. This is the most we will ever see in one house at a time, considering back on May 3, 2000, we saw a buildup of seven heavenly bodies in one house. Scientists say we will never see seven planets aligned in one sign again in our lifetime, but we will see six – and it is happening on January 16, 2018.

Almost all the concerns you will have this month will be financial. This would usually be a perfect time to generate income, but Uranus is about to throw thunderbolts, from his perch in your fifth house. You may be concerned about rising expenses and overruns in regard to a creative project. Or, a pregnancy or care for a child you have now might require large funds.

This same house, where Uranus, planet of surprise, is based, also rules fun and love. Do not lend money to a lover or friend at this time if you hope to be paid back someday, for that won’t likely happen. Alternatively, a social event – for example, the destination wedding of a close friend – will become exceedingly expensive and much more so than you estimated. As you see, on and in the weeks and months after January 16, it will be wise to be conservative with spending.

This month brings an eclipse of the moon in Leo, too, on January 31, which might send you packing to go to distant location, an ideal time to go. Or, if you regularly work with executives abroad, you will see a flurry of activity, and this eclipse may bring a deal that has to be crystalized immediately. You may be able to do a deal over the phone and email, and not need to fly to see executives in the foreign country – see how it goes. You have entered a really strong period. You are finished hosting taskmaster Saturn in Sagittarius, a three-year boot camp course that you were forced to endure, and points of that period were difficult for all Sagittarians.

Saturn departed on December 20 last month, and Mars will enter Sagittarius on January 26. These are two changes that will give you greater interest and control over all parts of your life. Earlier, on January 17, Venus will enter Aquarius, an air sign that will allow your fire element to burn more brightly. Your allure and magnetism will be at an all-time high, so make the most of this joyous period. The picture is brightening for you each day, dear Sagittarius.

This full moon lunar eclipse of January 31 may also help you further a goal you may be harboring about going back to college to get an advanced degree, or to score a deal or job in broadcasting or publishing. If you are in a court case, you may get a final resolve that will please you. Foreign people and places are an area that is brilliantly lit too, and you may be making a deal with someone abroad, or starting to work in the international arena.
