Virgo Horoscope for May 2016

This looks to be a playful, cheerful, and charming month of May, where your schedule will open up as some things get postponed, and in the interim, you might be able to travel quite far. Your career will become very active in June and will start to show signs of good progress as early as May 20. For this reason, consider travel early on. Let's have a look at May.
The first day to circle on your calendar will be May 3, when the Sun and Jupiter make a loving, fortunate aspect to each other and help you get ahead in all areas governed by the ninth house. This is basically an intellectual area of the chart that also covers long distance travel. Energy in this house will begin to open you up to broadening intellectual and cultural experiences. VIPs will smile on your requests, and at the same time, you may get happy news about a property matter or about a person connected to your home or family, such as a roommate, landlord, decorator, or great aunt as an example of four of many possible individuals who will be on your mind.
The new moon in compatible Taurus, 17 degrees, on May 6 will bring the activities I just mentioned to an even higher level. This new moon will open a portal of opportunity related to one of these specific areas: foreign travel, relationships, and/or work with people in international settings, or your efforts to get credentials and a degree from an institution of higher learning, such as at a university. Or, you may start to work on an important publishing or broadcasting project, or you may bring a court case, or if you are a lawyer, argue an important case on behalf of your client. This will be a beautiful new moon, for Jupiter in Virgo will be in ideal position to shower your actions with good fortune. A friend may provide the trigger to unlock the goodness of that new moon.
Neptune will also be in an outstanding position to help on the new moon May 6, and that support will come from a partner, collaborator, or person you hire to work with you in a one-on-one way. Keep in mind that a new moon packages the energy around it and pushes it forth, and also opens a path of ten days that provide opportunities for you. You will have to do your part by taking action to enjoy the effects of the new moon. This one seems special, so take seriously the chance you have to either enjoy yourself by taking a trip or by advancing your career by getting involved with a major endeavor covered by one of the categories I name.
If your birthday falls on September 9, plus or minus five days, you will feel this new moon more than other members of your sign. The same is true if you have Virgo rising 17 degrees, or a natal planet at 17 degrees Virgo, Taurus, Capricorn, Cancer, Scorpio, or Pisces. In all cases, allow a plus or minus five degrees.
On May 10, Venus and Jupiter will align and bring even more happiness related to all the topics mentioned in relation to the new moon. Travel would be out of this world. If you have to write or produce a broadcast, you'll do exceptionally well. Jupiter is in Virgo after all, favoring you above all others.
If your birthday falls on September 4, plus or minus three days, you'll get a double dip of pleasure from the communication between Venus and Jupiter, May 10, and also on the May 3 alignment of the Sun and Jupiter.
Since December 2014, you seem to have been very focused on a property or residential matter, or family member, such as one of your parents. This emphasis started when Saturn entered Sagittarius and the fourth house of home and family. Then, in early March this year, Mars entered Sagittarius, and Mars is still there, as is Saturn, making for plenty of focus on this area of your chart.
With Saturn in this house, you are growing in maturity by committing to a home-related goal. You may lease your first apartment if you are young and just starting out, or if farther along, you may be buying your first condo apartment, residential house, or vacation home. Or you may be staging your first home renovation or decorating project. If none of these instances fit, alternatively, you have taken on the supervision over the care of an elderly parent who desperately needs your help and love. Any of these actions would help you find an inner strength that you may have never assumed you possessed. This emphasis on home and family will run through the entire year and in 2017 too.
This month, adding to Saturn's presence, Mars will remain in your fourth house of home and family until May 27, then leave, and return again August 2 through September 27.
The full moon in Sagittarius, 1 degree, will ALSO light this part of your chart, adding even MORE emphasis, and hopefully, giving you an excellent chance for seeing closure in at least one phase of your plan. This full moon will come conjunct Mars in Sagittarius, suggesting you will be anxious to put plans into action, but if you can wait, wait.
Here is where I need to drop the other shoe. Mars has been retrograde since April 17, and will continue to be out of phase until June 29. To make things even more complicated, his brother Mercury will also be out of commission, having started to retrograde April 28, and set to continue until he turns direct on May 22.
As a matter of fact, three additional planets are also retrograde, namely, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto. You would not feel the effects of those latter three outer planets as much as Mercury and Mars - these two planets (along with Venus, which is not retrograde) are the planets that spin closest to earth, and hence, have the strongest influence on us here on earth. So there you have it. Five out of eight planets are retrograde.
This will mean that the universe will want us to look back, not forward. If you feel the very slow pace of the month is getting to you, know that soon things will straighten out, and there is no use railing against delays. These retrograde are bigger than both of us, dear Virgo.
Fortunately Jupiter in Virgo will turn direct on May 9, during that magical first half of May, which will be your best. Jupiter rules your house of home - your solar fourth house - so again there is even more emphasis. You may hear uplifting news in the days that surround May 9 (plus or minus two days). Yet, with so many planets retrograde, I don't want you to close on a house, buy expensive furniture, and certainly not buy electronic items (not even a smart phone) and not appliances or home oriented machines, like a vacuum cleaner or sewing machine, because Mercury rules electronics and the moving parts in machines, and you won't be happy with the purchase.
You CAN travel. I have always traveled with Mercury retrograde with almost no problem at all. I did leave my favorite reading glasses on the airplane once and that was an expensive loss. When I reached for the case, I was horrified to see the case did not have the glasses in them. This is why you need to be doubly deliberate about making sure you have not lost anything. Tape your business card to the back of your computer laptop, iPad, and smart phone, and put your card in your eyeglass and sunglass case.
